Sete de Setembro Indigenous Land - Rondônia - Amazon - Brazil
The Paiter Suruí indigenous people are located in the Sete de Setembro Indigenous Land (Rondônia), an area of 248 thousand hectares, where all the surrounding land has been deforested, with constant threats to the Paiter Suruí’s territorial integrity.
The cocoa harvested in the Indigenous Land comes from a young agroforest, with limited production, in an activity that has the support of Forest Trends' Communities and Territorial Governance Initiative.
The partnership with Forest Trends, which is based on defending the indigenous peolples’ rights and culture, supporting economic resilience and conserving their forests, so that territorial governance is strengthened, has been yielding good results, such as online training carried out with the intense participation of 17 representatives of the Paiter Suruí Indigenous People.
